Privacy – The GO BUFFALO NIAGARA site is owned, operated and maintained by the Greater Buffalo Niagara Regional Transportation Council (GBNRTC) in partnership with the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA), Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC, Inc), GObike Buffalo (GObike), and the Buffalo Niagara Partnership, and funded by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Collectively, these organizations are referred to as the “Partners.” The GBNRTC recognizes that visitors to this site may be concerned about the information they provide and how we treat that information. This Privacy Policy addresses these concerns.
Information We Collect – At this GO BUFFALO NIAGARA website, you may choose to provide information about yourself that is “personally identifiable information.” GBNRTC does not collect personally identifiable information about you unless you provide it to us voluntarily and knowingly. You can visit this site without telling us who you are or revealing information about yourself. However, if you give us personally identifiable information, such as filling out membership forms or request information forms, we may contact you from time to time.
What We Do with Your Information – If you voluntarily register for our memberships or request information forms and accept the TERMS AND CONDITIONS, your information will be collected and added to a registration database. This information may be shared with our partners who are listed above based on what you are registering for and our partners’ affiliation with the program you are registering for. For instance, if you sign up for our Carpool Matching Program, we will share your information with NYSDOT through their 511NY Rideshare Matching System so that a carpool account can be created.
511NY Rideshare Overview
511NY Rideshare is New York’s home for free ride-matching programs and traveler services, providing a wealth of information for anyone who wants more enhanced commute and travel options. 511NY Rideshare works with commuters, employers and travelers to make ridesharing an easy, affordable and appealing choice. Rideshare offers a suite of programs and services such as ridematching for carpools and vanpools and informational resources for transit services, bicycling, walking, teleworking and other options. A ride-matching system is a free online tool that employers, commuters and travelers can use to find other travelers to share a ride. The ride-matching system matches travelers based on similar trips as defined by users’ preferences. The 511NY Rideshare matching system will also map your route and show you where park-n-ride locations and other landmarks are along the way. The system also provides real-time traffic conditions, a “Match Me in Emergencies” option, a personal Trip Tracker, and a companion Mobile App. NYSDOT contracts with Metropool, CommuterLink and ICF International to operate and maintain 511NY Rideshare. Collectively, these contractors are referred to as the “511 Contractors.” NYSDOT oversees the 511 Contractors.
The Relationship of GBNRTC and 511NY Rideshare
511NY Rideshare works with GBNRTC to encourage employees to commute to work using sustainable modes such as carpooling, vanpooling, bicycling, walking and transit. 511NY Rideshare develops personalized portals for their rideshare matching system so that employers can offer a service to their employees that looks familiar and is accessible directly from their own sites.
511NY Rideshared works with GBNRTC to post links to the 511NY Rideshare matching system on the GO BUFFALO NIAGARA website, as a way to increase visibility and awareness of its services, and ultimately, increase the match potential for those registered in the system. The 511NY Rideshare matching system is linked from the GO BUFFALO NIAGARA home page through a link labelled “Online Carpool Matching System”. After clicking on the link to the 511NY Rideshare matching system, the user will leave the GO BUFFALO NIAGARA site. The rideshare matching system web pages will appear similar in look and feel to the GO BUFFALO NIAGARA site, but the user is interacting with the 511NY Rideshare site. The information submitted in the 511NY Rideshare matching system is stored in the 511NY Rideshare database. The personalized portals, databases, and all information submitted in the 511NY Rideshare system live on 511NY Rideshare servers, owned by NYSDOT, and operated and maintained by the 511 Contractors.

How this information is used by 511NY Rideshare
Registration information submitted by users online through the 511NY Rideshare system is sent directly to the 511NY Rideshare database. Offline registration information is collected by GBNRTC at outreach events and is emailed or provided online to 511 Contractors. 511 Contractors create a general profile for the user and email the user their username and password for the site, as well as an activation link.
When using the rideshare matching system, trip start and end points are provided as either the nearest cross streets or as points on a map showing the general location. Specific home or work addresses are not provided. Personal information is used only to facilitate carpool matches and to provide information about products, services and campaigns that encourage the use of alternatives to driving alone. Additionally, database participants may receive email or phone calls from 511 Contractors or GBNRTC Partners regarding transit assistance, to review and update their contact information, to provide feedback on their commute experience and/or to assist in the formation of carpools, vanpools or bike buddies.

Who Has Access to the Information We Collect – GBNRTC has access to the personal information submitted by the users through the GO BUFFALO NIAGARA website and the 511NY Rideshare matching system. This information may be shared with the Partners depending on what the user is registering for or requesting information about.
The Partners may have access to personal information submitted by users. By submitting personal information to the GBNRTC through the GO BUFFALO NIAGARA website or through direct/telephone contact with the GBNRTC, the user is allowing the Partners to process personal information.
